2004 IWSA Fall Awards

The 2003 IWSA Awards Dinner was held November
13th, at the Holiday Inn Select in Indianapolis.
A wine and cheese party was sponsored by Skier's Edge.
Awards and door prizes were sponsored by Bart's Water Sports and Pine Crest
Marina, MD Boats and Skiers Edge.
The event was attended by 97 members of the IWSA and awards were presented to the following skiers.
One of
the biggest most talked about tournaments of the year was the 1st Big Dog
tournament held in Ohio. There were over 60 skiers from 15 different
states of 34 MPH age divisions competing for a cash purse of $5000, in a
tournament where 38 off was ran for a total of 55 times over three days. IWSA
had three skiers advance to the finals.

Scott,
after the first day of competition earned top seed through the three days of
competition with a personal best of 1 1/4 at 39 off in the tournament and went
on to finish 2nd, only a half bouy behind the leader with 2 1/2 at 39 off.

Kim
Contos skied 4 at 39 off to earn 5th seed in the preliminary round and
went on to finish 3rd in the event.
Chris Clark
Chris
Clark has been skiing well this year and did it when it counted. Chris skied 3
at 39 off for a 10th seed, well enough to make the top 16 who get to
go on to battle it out in the finals.
The first slalom cup was a fun event. Total buoys from 5 different tournaments
in Indiana were given in 3 different categories in both women and men divisions.

Curtis is a member of the Purdue Ski Team, he is newly elected President of the
team and sits on the IWSA board. Curtis brings a lot to the board every meeting.
Andrew has come a long way. He holds state records in tricks and slalom and was
1st at state overall, then upped his records again this year.
Rick has came a long way through the last few years. Struggling to make 35 off a
few years ago to now consistently skiing mid 38's
Scott's jumping has came a long ways this year. Scott's been pushing 90 feet for
a time till all of a sudden the tournament right before state he jumps a
102. And came close to it again at state with a 99',Scot got his initiation dunk
to the Century Club at the state tournament.
If your from the North you know Ora is no stranger to the sport. Ora skied
in every NSL event there has been held in the North for the last 2 years. He
went through a drivers clinic to be able to assist in driving a few events. Then
when the PA was silent Ora picked up the mike and does a great job announcing
too.
Tom has been a big part of IWSA serving as treasurer for 19years before passing
it along a few years ago. Tom sits on the National Rules Committee and was in
Florida at a rules committee meeting. Not only does Tom judge or score or drive
and ski in many events around the state he was also appointed chief judge at the
2004 nationals in west Palm Beach Florida. While Tom ran a successful nationals,
he also managed to finish 4th place overall in men's 4 at nationals.
Timberlake was the host club for this years state tournament in Evansville.
While they accomplished to run a very successful event there they were also a
hosting club to run regionals in Illinois. They were very busy this year in
getting everything together to run two big events on back to back
weekends.
This award this year kind of goes with the Ski Club of the year award. As we
started to mention the efforts of one Schmitt family, it could hardly be ignored
that the others were there serving a big part of the efforts also. So we awarded
the three family's of Mike and Rhonda Schmitt, Mark and Jean Schmitt and Sam and
Cheryl Schmitt.
Kirby's skiing has improved over the year and she swept the 1st placements in
girls 2 with a 1st in slalom, 1st in tricks, 1st in jump and 1st overall
at the state tournament.
Sam is slaloming better than ever, Sam won his first ever boys 1 national slalom
title this year after finishing 2nd last year.
Philippa is skiing better and better. She is knocking on the door of a 39 off.
She consistently gets to 38 and ran 4 at their tournament at the end of the
season for a new regional women 3 record.
Brandon is no newbe to skiing, He's competed at jr. masters, and challenged on
many pro tour stops and many nationals. Brandon put it together at West Palm for
his first national slalom title and also skied in the trick and jump events and
his 3 scores combined gave him a 5th place overall.
Cale's accomplished everything you could ask from a jr. slalom skier.

Prissy continues to break records and earn 1st places everywhere, state
tournaments, regional tournaments, as well as winning Nationals 2 years running.
