Patty Patterson

A very deserving Patty Patterson was given the Rollie Williams Award at the 2001 Indiana State Waterski Championship Awards Banquet.  Mike Patterson received this award a few years ago and it was only fitting that Patty receive this award as well.  Although Patty was a national competitor in roller skating events starting at a young age, it became obvious to her that marrying Mike Patterson meant marrying waterskiing.  When Sugar Creek Ski Club was founded, Patty immediately began pitching in to help with the jobs associated with hosting tournaments.  She received her ratings as scorer, judge and safety director so she would be able to help wherever she was needed and she does.  Not only does she officiate at her home site tournaments (soon to include Silent Shores), she has officiated at tournaments at Fairland, Champion Lake, Meski, Muncie, Ski Klub of Indianapolis, and Hawthorn Lake.  She has been Chief Scorer for the State Championships multiple times.  She has served as Assistant Chief Scorer at Regionals.  What non-scorers may not know is that the Chief Scorer for a tournament has the responsibility to see that all tournament results, officials and reports are submitted to USA Waterski complete and on time.  This enables the skiers and officials to receive credit for their work and results.  Such reporting requires meticulous attention to detail and takes additional hours after the skiing is done.  Check out your ratings card and/or official’s record and we bet that you will have Patty Patterson’s signature on it.

As for her own skiing, she is quite a fine trick skier and skied at the nationals in 1996.  A rumor was confirmed that she had a brief run at slalom skiing in the late 80’s before giving it up for good.  In the off season she is quite the power walker.  Her pace is quite fast, so don’t be volunteering to go for a walk with her unless you are in very good shape.  As a side note, when Patty is in the real world, she is a Field Service Representative for Bank One, responsible for getting new bank machines (ATM’s) up and running.  Patty is a tireless worker, always cheerful and trying to help everyone; she embodies what the Rollie Williams Award is all about.  We appreciate her contributions to Indiana waterskiing!!

What a nice surprise!

What a nice surprise!  I would like to take this opportunity to say  “Thank You” for honoring me with the “Rollie Williams” award in 2001.  It was a wonderful surprise and one I will remember for a long time.   The past award winners as well as the rest of the Indiana Water Skiers are a great bunch of people to be associated with.  I only hope that one day all Indiana water skiers experience winning this award.  As always the State tournament was filled with lots of excitement, fun and friends and by ending the weekend winning this award it was the best ever.   The only bad part was you taught my husband to lie to me.  When I asked who won before we went down to dinner he told me so and so and I thought that was a good pick because that person does a great job.   I even looked around at dinner to make sure this person was there.  If he can lie about this what else don’t I know?  Just kidding!  I forgave him.  Again Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
