Tournament Classifications

All Tournaments sanctioned by A.W.S.A. are designated by classification.  So everyone can ski against other entrants in their same classification. Here's the distinction between the different classifications.

Class N (novice) or F (fun) tournaments are primarily for beginning skiers which allow wide variations from the requirements of the other classifications and in which up to and including First Class Rating may be earned. Each State may have a different Novice Performance Standard Limit. Once you've skied out of Novice, you are not to compete in that division again. In Indiana these limits are:

               Slalom                 Trick                    Jump
Men        6 @ 34                1100                    76' -  5' jump
Women  6 @ 28                 700                     50'

Class  I -    Local tournaments which for some reason do not meet the requirements of a class C tournament.

Class C -  Standard Local Tournaments in which all ratings other than Open may be earned. But to attain an

EP rating the performance standard would have to be attained in 2 different tournaments.

Class E -   A Tournament in which an EP rating could be acquired while attaining  one performance standard.

Class L -   A Tournament in which your performance would rank you on the International Ranking List.

Class R -   A Tournament in which a World or National Records could be attained.

Each tournament  will have a variance of these different classifications. So check the Regional Guide or the announcements here for the different classifications offered. By offering the record classifications, the tournament site must be set at higher standards, and requires the use of higher ranked officials.
